Africa Day is an annual commemoration of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963. The OAU was established to promote unity and cooperation among African nations and to support liberation movements fighting against colonialism and apartheid. The first Africa Day was celebrated on May 25, 1963, marking the 39th anniversary of the founding of the OAU. In 2002, the OAU was replaced by the African Union (AU), which continues to observe Africa Day on May 25th each year.

Africa Day is celebrated across the African continent and around the world, with events and activities highlighting the diversity, culture, and achievements of African people. The day is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made by African nations since the founding of the OAU, and to renew commitments to promoting peace, prosperity, and development throughout the continent.

In recent years, the themes of Africa Day have focused on issues such as economic development, human rights, and environmental sustainability. The day is an important reminder of the shared history and common goals of African nations, and an opportunity to celebrate the rich culture and diversity of the African continent.
